Eating breakfast is good for you, but eating a breakfast with a boost of protein is even better. Protein-rich foods help to keep you fuller, longer, so you’re less likely to overeat later. And protein is essential for building and maintaining valuable calorie-burning muscle mass.
Van’s Protein waffles are among the highest-protein waffles on the market, with 10 grams of protein per two-waffle serving – about what you get in one and a half eggs.
Most waffles, however, just have about half that amount, so we’ve put together five interesting ways to pile more protein onto your favorite waffle.
Not only will these Mexican-style spices wake up your taste buds, they can also help to fire up your metabolism as well. It’s super-simple, just mix one tablespoon of your favorite nut or seed butter with a quarter-teaspoon each of chili powder and cinnamon and one-eight teaspoon of cayenne pepper, and you’ve got a rich, creamy protein-rich waffle topping that has just the right amount of heat. For a larger batch, mix together one cup of nut or seed butter, four teaspoons each of chili powder and cinnamon, and two teaspoons of cayenne pepper.
Craving chocolate? Use a lower-sugar chocolate nut butter (like Better’n Peanut Butter Chocolate Peanut Butter or Peanut Butter & Co’s Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter) in place of regular nut or seed butter.
